Le dépôt national d'étalons a été installé en 1810 dans les bâtiments de l'ancienne abbaye bénédictine. La création de cet établissement faisait partie du programme d'amélioration des races d'équidés, décidé par Napoléon par décret du 4 juillet 1806 ; celui-ci devait éviter à la remonte de se fournir toujours à l'étranger et améliorer la qualité des bêtes utilisées dans l'agriculture. History
The national stud farm was established in 1810 in the buildings of the former Benedictine abbey. The creation of this establishment was part of a programme for the improvement of equine breeds, decided by Napoleon by decree of 4 July 1806; this was intended to prevent the remount from always having to procure supplies abroad and to improve the quality of the animals used in agriculture. The buildings are entirely rebuilt from 1860: first a large courtyard for the stables (architect Couvreux), with in front the house for lodging the officers (1868), then a second courtyard (1876-1880), by the architect Descaves for the lodging of grooms, the saddle-room and the forge and finally, a third courtyard (1909) conceived by the architect Postel-Vinay for the infirmary and the riding school.
