Le camp fut aménagé pour servir de cantonnement aux ouvriers employés à la construction d'une poudrerie entre Casseneuil et Sainte-Livrade. Il s'agit d'un des six camps construits pour les besoins de la poudrerie, dont la réalisation fut annulée par l'invasion allemande en 1940. Il accueillit dès lors, successivement, les chantiers de jeunesse, une compagnie d'instruction de fusilliers de l'Air, des soldats russes prisonniers et enfin, les Français d'Indochine. Le camp se composait de 36 bâtiments autour d'une place centrale.

History
The camp was developed to serve as a cantonment for workers employed in the construction of a gunpowder factory between Casseneuil and Sainte-Livrade. It is one of six camps built for the needs of the gunpowder factory, whose completion was cancelled by the German invasion in 1940. It subsequently welcomed, in turn, youth work camps, an instruction company of Air Force riflemen, Russian prisoners of war and finally, French people from Indochina. The camp consisted of 36 buildings arranged around a central square.
