Historique

History
The blowing machine called Watt machine is installed in 1870. It is intended to provide the air necessary for the combustion of ore in the blast furnaces of the Société Métallurgique du Périgord. This company originally produces railway equipment and then water supply pipes, gas burners for city equipment and machine-tool frames. Built in England, the double-beam machine, in cast iron and bronze, of approximately ten metres span, developed a force of 200 hp. The steam necessary for its operation was produced by boilers since destroyed. The steam and wind cylinders are vertical. A four-segment flywheel, approximately 2 m in diameter, made it possible to standardize the movement of the machine whose support pillars consist of fluted cast-iron columns. Stopped since 1954, the blowing machine, meticulously restored in 1986 by the Société Aquitaine de Fonderie Automobile, can be set in motion.
