Situé à côté de la cathédrale du Puy, l'hôtel médiéval Grateloup possédait une chapelle privée installée au-dessus de la rue latérale en pente qui le longeait et de la porte Grateloup qui fermait l'enceinte canoniale. Occupé au XIIIe / début XIVe siècles par les Dauphins de Viennois, l'hôtel a été agrandi à l'ouest aux XVIIe et XVIIIe siècles et intégré dans un nouvel hôtel particulier plus vaste, dont le jardin était partagé avec l'hôtel Saint-Vidal, alors détenu par le même propriétaire. A partir du début du XXe siècle, il appartient au diocèse, abritant successivement l'évêque lui-même, la manécanterie puis les chanoines et prêtres de la cathédrale.
Description
La partie médiévale de l'hôtel s'articulait autour d'une cour intérieure, alors longée par une ruelle, comblée par la suite. La chapelle surplombant la rue Saint-Georges recèle des décors peints figuratifs récemment révélés par des sondages et pouvant remonter au début du XIVe siècle. Deux niveaux de caves voûtées se rattachent également aux origines médiévales de l'hôtel. Le bâtiment d'époque moderne présente des dispositions classiques, avec ses façades très régulières sur rue et sur jardin. Les intérieurs, dotés de boiseries et cheminées, comportent notamment un oratoire aux décors de stuc du XVIIIe siècle et une pièce revêtue de peintures murales du XVIIe ou XVIIIe siècle.

Located next to the cathedral of Puy, the medieval hotel Grateloup possessed a private chapel installed above the sloping side street which ran alongside it and the Grateloup gate which closed the canonical enclosure. Occupied in the 13th / early 14th centuries by the Dauphins of Viennois, the hotel was enlarged to the west in the 17th and 18th centuries and integrated into a larger new private mansion, whose garden was shared with the Saint-Vidal hotel, then held by the same owner. From the early 20th century onwards, it belongs to the diocese, housing successively the bishop himself, the song school then the canons and priests of the cathedral.
Description
The medieval part of the hotel was articulated around an interior courtyard, then bordered by an alleyway, subsequently filled in. The chapel overlooking the rue Saint-Georges contains figurative painted decorations recently revealed by test excavations and possibly dating from the early 14th century. Two levels of vaulted cellars also relate to the medieval origins of the hotel. The modern-period building presents classical arrangements, with its very regular façades on street and garden sides.
