Les arènes ont été édifiées en 1913 sur un terrain rehaussé et réaménagé pour la circonstance : le parc Théodore Denis. Bâties en béton armé sur le modèle des arènes espagnoles, ces arènes mixtes pouvaient accueillir 5500 places. Devenues trop exiguës, elles sont agrandies par rehaussement d'un niveau de gradins. Les nouvelles arènes de 8000 places sont inaugurées en 1932.

The arena was built in 1913 on raised ground and remodelled for the occasion: the parc Théodore Denis. Built in reinforced concrete on the model of Spanish arenas, these mixed arenas could accommodate 5500 seats. Having become too small, they are enlarged by raising a level of seating. The new arena of 8000 seats is inaugurated in 1932.
