Isolée au milieu des champs, Saint-Martin d'Espérous présente une silhouette caractéristique des édifices du Gabardan : une nef qui prolonge exactement le chevet s'achève par un puissant clocher-mur très aigu à son extrémité occidentale. Le plan simple est surtout remarquable par l'ampleur du chevet et la relative largeur de la nef, l'ensemble se trouvant épaulé par de nombreux contreforts. Cet édifice élevé en deux étapes au 13e siècle et au 14e siècle a été voûté vers 1540. Adjonction d'une chapelle sud au 17e siècle et construction d'une sacristie en 1786. Au tout début du 19e siècle un porche et un bâtiment en pan de bois élevés à l'angle nord-ouest lui ont donné sa note pittoresque.

History
Isolated in the middle of fields, Saint-Martin d'Espérous presents a characteristic silhouette of buildings of the Gabardan: a nave which extends exactly the chevet ends with a powerful gable bell tower very acute at its western extremity. The simple plan is especially remarkable for the amplitude of the chevet and the relative breadth of the nave, the whole being supported by numerous buttresses. This building, erected in two stages in the 13th century and the 14th century was vaulted around 1540. Addition of a southern chapel in the 17th century and construction of a sacristy in 1786. At the very beginning of the 19th century, a porch and a timber-framed building erected at the northwest angle gave it its picturesque character.
