La maison est située sur un plateau, en bord de falaise, dominant l'abbaye bénédictine de Baume-les-Messieurs bâtie au fond d'un cirque, une des reculées les plus célèbres du Jura. Cette demeure de style néo-classique est construite à la fin du xviiie s. pour Marie de Calonne, cousine germaine du ministre des finances de Louis xvi, Charles Alexandre de Calonne. Elle est conçue comme une résidence d'été, ménageant des accès à deux belvédères par le parc, l'un sur la cascade des Tufs, l'autre sur l'abbaye. Un bassin en pierre ceinturé par un escalier en fer à cheval donne accès au jardin en contrebas. Derrière ce bassin, sous la terrasse, une grotte est ornée de concrétions de tuf provenant de la cascade. Un oratoire au fond du jardin surplombe la reculée. La façade est composée en son centre par un portique à colonnade surmonté d'un fronton triangulaire et ouvrant sur un vestibule en rotonde.

History
The house is situated on a plateau, on the edge of a cliff, overlooking the Benedictine abbey of Baume-les-Messieurs built at the bottom of a cirque, one of the most famous reculées of the Jura. This dwelling of neo-classical style is built at the end of the 18th century for Marie de Calonne, first cousin of the minister of finances of Louis XVI, Charles Alexandre de Calonne. It is designed as a summer residence, providing access to two belvederes by the park, one over the Tufs waterfall, the other over the abbey. A stone basin encircled by a horseshoe staircase gives access to the garden below. Behind this basin, under the terrace, a grotto is adorned with tuff concretions from the waterfall. An oratory at the end of the garden overlooks the reculée. The façade is composed at its centre by a portico with colonnade topped with a triangular pediment and opening onto a rotunda vestibule.
