Le 23 janvier 1783, Henri Beyle naît à Grenoble, rue des Vieux Jésuites. Il y vit jusqu'à l'âge de sept ans. Après le décès de sa mère, en 1790, il habite chez son grand-père, dans une maison donnant sur la Grande-rue, la place Grenette et le jardin de ville. Les appartements occupent le deuxième étage d'immeubles situés à l'intérieur de l'enceinte romaine.

History
On 23 January 1783, Henri Beyle was born in Grenoble, rue des Vieux Jésuites. He lived there until the age of seven. After the death of his mother, in 1790, he lived with his grandfather, in a house overlooking the Grande-rue, the place Grenette and the city garden. The apartments occupy the second floor of buildings located inside the Roman rampart.
