Historique

History
The site preserves, to the west of the courtyard, the remains of a Gallo-Roman villa appearing to date from the 3rd century. The castle was probably built in 1487. It consists of two wings at right angles flanked by round towers and a curtain wall extending the East wing and closing the courtyard to the north. The east wing is extended by a higher section attached to the north gable adorned with chequerwork, probably on old foundations as the walls are thick. The north curtain wall is pierced by a fortified gateway at ground level of which the drawbridge has disappeared. Neo-gothic outbuildings were rebuilt towards the west. The west curtain wall disappeared after the end of the 18th century to open the courtyard towards the gardens and park situated beyond. The walls of fine ashlar, are decorated, at the level of the gables and in the upper parts of the towers, with a chequerwork pattern in brick and stone. Few openings retain their decoration from the end of the 15th century; others were pierced or enlarged in the classical period or in the 19th century. The interior façades are lit by openings all renewed or created at the end of the 19th century, in a flamboyant neogothic style. The north-east curtain wall was provided with crenellation and its gateway was partly rebuilt. Following the East wing a kitchen was built forming a terrace which comes to lean against the curtain wall. A terrace level was laid out in the classical period and extends to the west. The landscape park reigns to the west and north.
