Historique
Anne de Montmorency, connétable et gouverneur du Languedoc en 1539 s'installa dans le vieux château de Pézenas. Son fils, Henri Ier de Montmorency (1534-1614), amiral et connétable de France, également gouverneur du Languedoc, vint à Pézenas en 1563. Il acheta en 1587, les terres dites des Prés et fit construire le château de La Grange des Prés qui très vite fut reconnu pour sa commodité grâce à ses grandes cours et ses vastes logis et communs ainsi que pour la beauté de ses jardins, ornés de grottes, de bassins et de fontaines. La construction fut confiée à Jean Thomas, architecte lorrain devenu ensuite piscénois. Les travaux furent achevés en 1595.

History
Anne de Montmorency, Constable and Governor of Languedoc in 1539 installed himself in the old castle of Pézenas. His son, Henri Ier de Montmorency (1534-1614), Admiral and Constable of France, also Governor of Languedoc, came to Pézenas in 1563. He bought in 1587, the lands called des Prés and had constructed the château de La Grange des Prés which very quickly was recognized for its convenience thanks to its large courtyards and vast dwellings and farm buildings as well as for the beauty of its gardens, adorned with grottoes, basins and fountains. The construction was entrusted to Jean Thomas, Lorraine architect who subsequently became a resident of Pézenas. The works were completed in 1595.
