History

Hotel of the 17th century, remodelled in the 18th century. The medieval tower is the only remaining vestige of the towers of the medieval walls. This tower preserves, in its middle section, a room vaulted with rib vault with corbels carved with human heads and a large opening to the east. It is called the "tower of prisons" because of the existence of dungeons in the basements. It was first restored around 1600, during the reconstruction of the fortifications. By means of a tall ground floor, the dwelling opened to the west towards the interior of the old town, onto a courtyard closed by a porch with gallery and corner towers. A further alteration in the 18th century reoriented the openings and distributions towards the exterior of the town, the ground floor being at a different level from the current place des Etats.
