Historique

History
The observatory was created by decree in 1878. It is located on the site of a former wine estate whose master house was reused to house the director. The first building is inaugurated in 1880. It was designed to accommodate a meridian telescope. Three other telescopes with equatorial mounts are subsequently put into service between 1882 and 1891 intended to produce photographs for the sky chart. The construction of a metallurgical pavilion intended to house the magnetic instruments is completed in 1880 (a pavilion that was built specifically without ferruginous materials so as not to disturb magnetic field measurements). Erection of a T60 telescope in 1954 and a radio telescope in 1965. The construction between 1937 and 1986 of three other administrative buildings and small houses intended to house astronomers completes the site.
