En 1924, Henry Frugès, industriel du sucre, propriétaire de quatre usines à Bordeaux, va confier à Le Corbusier et Pierre Jeanneret la réalisation de deux cités ouvrières. Une première à Lège, la seconde à Pessac. Les contraintes économiques liées notamment à la densité et à l'occupation de la parcelle, obligent Le Corbusier à concevoir des regroupements en dehors de quelques cas. Ces regroupements permettent un jeu combinatoire qui ménage et soutient ses exigences plastiques. Aux quatre types de maisons combinées : quinconce, arcade, gratte-ciel et zig-zag, s'ajoutent des maisons isolées spécifiques, comme celle de l'ingénieur Vrinat et les maisons jumelles. Le chantier débute en 1925 et s'achève en 1926. L'adduction d'eau se fera en 1929. In 1924, Henry Frugès, sugar industrialist, owner of four factories in Bordeaux, entrusted Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret with the realisation of two workers' cities.
