Historique
Colonnes de vingt-et-un mètres, édifiées en 1828 par l'architecte Alexandre Poitevin. Elles sont ornées de proues de galères prolongées de rostres formés de deux faisceaux de trois glaives. Au-dessus de ces proues se répètent en relief les symboles de la marine et du commerce. Tous ces éléments ont été sculptés par l'ornemaniste Bonino. Le chapiteau de chaque colonne supporte un édicule couvert d'une coupole. Les statues allégoriques du commerce et de la navigation qui couronnent ces colonnes sont l'oeuvre du sculpteur Monsau. Elles étaient à l'origine en terre cuite, avant d'être remplacées par des copies de fonte.

History
Columns of twenty-one metres, erected in 1828 by architect Alexandre Poitevin. They are decorated with galley prows extended by rostra formed of two bundles of three swords. Above these prows are repeated in relief the symbols of the navy and commerce. All these elements were sculpted by the ornamentalist Bonino. The capital of each column supports a small building covered with a dome. The allegorical statues of commerce and navigation that crown these columns are the work of sculptor Monsau. They were originally in terracotta, before being replaced by cast iron copies.
