Pierre Bertrand, when he came to establish himself in Avignon, had a palace erected facing the papal city. When he was elevated to the cardinalate, he created a priory next to his palace. The first authorizations date from 1329. This priory served as a residence for the illustrious guests of the popes. Despite some repairs in the 17th century, the estate was neglected. The whole was sold as national property at the Revolution, leading to various changes according to the owners: destruction of the chapel, of the bell tower and of the monastic buildings; in the 19th century, restructuring of the house, creation of the park with the lodging of a keeper; in the 20th century, raising of the building. Despite these repairs, the main body of the building has retained most of its structures from the 14th century. This building comprised, on the ground floor, a large coffered room (partitioned in the 19th century). The original painted decoration is preserved on part of the ceiling (foliage, rosettes). Two pointed-arch doors survive and must have opened onto a second body of building now disappeared. The repairs have mainly affected the openings. The largest works take place around 1880 with the creation of a spiral staircase, the partitioning and neo-gothic arrangement of the ground floor, as well as the realization of the park. It seems to have been commissioned around 1885 to Gabriel Luizet and executed ten years later. The park preserves the medieval arrangement of the spring: three underground channels covered with pointed arches converge towards a collector itself covered with a pointed arch, while another segment of channel brings the waters into a reservoir vaulted with a rib vault. These hydraulic installations from the 14th century can be considered as a "unicum".
