History

Hotel built in the 17th century for the powerful family of Laudun, on the site of a medieval building. U-shaped plan between courtyard and garden, an arrangement quite rare in this region and unique in Aramon where the majority of hotels are built with the façade on the street. The hotel rises two storeys above ground level, with an attic storey on the East wing. It has one storey less on the West wing. This asymmetry is probably due to the existence of a medieval building on the East side. The honour courtyard is situated to the south and the garden to the north, the state rooms being arranged around this courtyard. The door on the street opens beneath the East wing and the ground floor with groined vault communicates with the courtyard by a large depressed arch. The staircase is located in a polygonal tower half-engaged at the eastern angle of the courtyard. This spiral staircase was built later as it cuts across the windows of the east wing. To access the west wing, a covered gallery was added to the central main dwelling. It is bordered by stone balustrades and carried by a large depressed arch which harmonises with that of the entrance. In the south-west angle is found a bartisan. In this same angle stands out against the roofs a circular chimney of medieval type. Inside, the rooms on the first floor have retained their original volume with French ceilings and monumental fireplaces with different decorations (painted hood; stucco decoration) which appear to date from the second half of the 17th century. The amplitude of the plan, the quality of execution and finish, demonstrate the effort made to conform to the "Parisian models".
