Historique
Le phare actuel, bâti en 1950, succède à un premier phare édifié en 1839 et détruit lors de la seconde guerre mondiale. Le feu est allumé en février 1952. La mise en oeuvre de la tour emploie un nouveau procédé de coulée du béton élaboré par lingénieur Ernest Scuiller. Lélévation tronconique surmonte un soubassement carré en maçonnerie de pierre de taille et béton auquel sont adossés, de chaque côté, des bâtiments réservés au logement des gardiens. Lensemble offre également une intéressante combinaison de fonctions utiles à la vie sur lîle : phare pour lactivité maritime, autoclave de désalinisation deau de mer pour alimenter les habitants en eau douce et centrale électrique qui fournit le courant à lensemble de lîle.

History
The present lighthouse, built in 1950, succeeds a first lighthouse erected in 1839 and destroyed during the Second World War. The light was lit in February 1952. The implementation of the tower employs a new concrete casting process developed by engineer Ernest Scuiller. The truncated conical elevation surmounts a square base of ashlar masonry and concrete to which are attached, on each side, buildings reserved for the housing of keepers. The whole also offers an interesting combination of functions useful to life on the island: lighthouse for maritime activity, autoclave for desalination of seawater to supply inhabitants with fresh water and power station which supplies electricity to the whole island.
