Historique
Originalité de l’histoire le monument aux morts de la ville d’Evreux est un don. En effet le sculpteur Jacques Froment-Meurice l’offre au Comité central du Souvenir Français qui le donne à son tour au comité d’Evreux. Ce monument n’est pas une œuvre originale. Elle s’inspire de la figure de la jeune fille en deuil du monument réalisé en hommage à Frédéric Chopin (1810-1849) et installé à Paris dans le parc Monceau en 1906. L’œuvre est inaugurée en novembre 1934.
Description
Taillée dans un marbre de carrare, à l’origine, la jeune femme vêtue d’une robe en voile était adossée à un muret à redans en ciment portant notamment la devise du Souvenir français. Tenant sa tête dans la main droite, décoiffée, le corps affaissé, son attitude symbolise le deuil. A la suite du remaniement du carré militaire du cimetière à la fin des années 1960 l’œuvre a été déplacée et elle a perdu son muret de ciment.

History
Originality of the history: the war memorial of the city of Evreux is a gift. Indeed the sculptor Jacques Froment-Meurice offers it to the Central Committee of Souvenir Français which gives it in turn to the Evreux committee. This monument is not an original work. It is inspired by the figure of the grieving young woman of the monument created in homage to Frédéric Chopin (1810-1849) and installed in Paris in the park Monceau in 1906. The work is inaugurated in November 1934.
Description
Carved in Carrara marble, originally, the young woman dressed in a veil dress was leaning against a stepped wall in cement bearing notably the motto of Souvenir Français. Holding her head in her right hand, dishevelled, her body drooping, her attitude symbolises mourning. Following the reorganization of the military section of the cemetery at the end of the 1960s the work was moved and it lost its cement wall.
