La commune de Corneville doit sa renommée à l'opérette Les Cloches de Corneville, opéra comique sur une musique de Robert Planquette, de 1877. Une souscription en vue de financer des cloches destinées à l'église de Corneville, a été lancée en 1900, la coulée devant être réalisée le 22 septembre 1900 par l'entreprise Paccard. La souscription n'ayant pas permis de réunir les fonds nécessaires, les cloches ont alors été achetées par un habitant de Corneville qui les a cédées au patron d'une guinguette. C'est dans ce contexte qu'ont été édifiés successivement : le pavillon des cloches surmonté d'un campanile, auquel était adjointe une terrasse entourée d'un mur surmonté de grilles, existant en 1903 ; le corps principal de l'auberge, situé sur la terrasse agrandie de manière importante, inauguré en 1907. Par la suite, divers agrandissements de la construction ont eu lieu. Le carillon de 12 cloches a été installé dans le comble du pavillon des cloches, qui a perdu son campanile au profit d'une toiture à quatre pans, après suppression des abat-sons, le bâtiment étant de plus entièrement essenté en ardoises. History
The commune of Corneville owes its renown to the operetta The Bells of Corneville, comic opera with music by Robert Planquette, from 1877. A subscription was launched in 1900 to finance bells intended for the church of Corneville, the casting to be carried out on 22 September 1900 by the Paccard company. The subscription having failed to raise the necessary funds, the bells were then purchased by a resident of Corneville who ceded them to the owner of a popular dance hall. It is in this context that the following were built successively: the bell pavilion surmounted by a campanile, to which was adjoined a terrace surrounded by a wall topped with railings, existing in 1903; the main body of the inn, situated on the terrace enlarged substantially, inaugurated in 1907. Subsequently, various enlargements of the building took place. The carillon of 12 bells was installed in the roof space of the bell pavilion, which lost its campanile in favour of a four-pitched roof, after the removal of the louvres, the building being moreover entirely shingled with slates. With regard to the carillon, a procedure for the classification of this musical instrument was conducted in parallel.
