History
The history of the fort of the bishops of Périgueux, whose keep was transformed into a bell tower in the 17th century, is intimately linked to that of the church which was formerly the chapel of the château. This is a fortified residence of the 12th and 13th centuries, and not a fortress. Three wings surrounded a square courtyard, but only the western wing remained standing with its central tower projecting and its wooden gallery serving the first floor. Above the château and at the edges of the church, a cemetery is laid out in terraces where very many ancient tombs are scattered.
