Historique
Situé près de la place Carnot, sur une terrasse en surplomb de la rue dArgentine, le monument aux morts de Saulieu fut réalisé en 1921 par le sculpteur Edouard Fraisse (1880-1945), originaire de Beaune. Le monument se compose dun socle élevé, surmonté dune pyramide dont se détache, sur lune des faces, la statue en pied dun poilu. Sous les traits de ce poilu, Fraisse a choisi de représenter le caporal Charles Collenot (1888-1961), originaire de la ville, et qui sillustra lors de la prise de Douaumont en octobre 1916. Le monument est lune des rares créations en trois dimensions dEdouard Fraisse.

History
Located near Place Carnot, on a terrace overlooking rue d'Argentine, the war memorial of Saulieu was created in 1921 by the sculptor Edouard Fraisse (1880-1945), from Beaune. The monument consists of an elevated base, surmounted by a pyramid from which emerges, on one of the faces, the full-length statue of a poilu. In the features of this poilu, Fraisse chose to represent Corporal Charles Collenot (1888-1961), from the town, who distinguished himself at the taking of Douaumont in October 1916. The monument is one of the rare three-dimensional creations by Edouard Fraisse.
