Historique

History
At the end of the 19th century, and following examples that had appeared in the capital as well as in the majority of large cities, the municipality of Dijon undertook to build a boys' secondary school under the direction of the departmental architect Arthur Chaudouet, winner of the competition opened for this purpose in 1887. The initial project was modified to meet innovative standards, based on hygiene and comfort, by allowing more light to penetrate the interior of the premises. The simplicity of the main building, located on boulevard Thiers, contrasts with the ostentatious style of the portal bay, characteristic of the eclectic classicism of the second half of the 19th century. The main structure is flanked on either side by two modern buildings housing the quarters of the Juniors and the Seniors. Built in stone and brick, they are decorated with terracotta bas-reliefs. The sculptures surrounding the clock as well as other ornamental elements are works by the Dijon artist Jules Schanosky. The entire architectural ensemble was inaugurated on 31 July 1893.
