Historique

History
This redoubt belongs to an ensemble of fortifications established around Dijon after the 1877 war, and is integrated into the defensive system of the Eastern frontiers, due to General Séré de Rivières. The construction works of this structure, intended to defend the intermediate section between the Langres road and that of Gray, extend from 1878 to 1880. The barracks line up six casemates, of which four chambered ones intended for a garrison of 150 men, one for the kitchen and one for artillery materiel. At each end of the façade a punishment cell was installed. Behind the casemates, a manoeuvre corridor provides access to a powder magazine with a capacity of thirty tons. The rampart street serves a low battery, and is furnished with nine shelter traverses, one of which is rooted and two others serving as ducts for the caponières placed at salients 2 and 3. The artillery positions firing at barbette can be occupied by about twenty guns. At the gorge, two pseudo-bastioned positions protected the curtain wall by enfilade fire. The central massif preserves, at its summit, the foundations of the optical communications house.
