Historique
Le château occupe une position stratégique sur un éperon au débouché de la Corrèze, sur la plaine de Brive-la-Gaillarde. Traces d'occupation gallo-romaine. Il subsiste tout un ensemble de bâtiments du 13e siècle (tour carrée de l'oratoire, bâtiment central renfermant la citerne et la tour carrée d'escalier en vis, vestiges de la chapelle...). Après un incendie en 1793, le château est relevé au 19e siècle avec intégration des bâtiments subsistants ; un grand corps de bâtiment est édifié dans le style troubadour. Réfection des ailes sud et est après un incendie en 1984.

History
The castle occupies a strategic position on a spur at the outlet of the Corrèze, on the plain of Brive-la-Gaillarde. Traces of Gallo-Roman occupation. There remain a whole ensemble of buildings from the 13th century (square tower of the oratory, central building containing the cistern and square spiral stair tower, vestiges of the chapel...). After a fire in 1793, the castle is restored in the 19th century with integration of surviving buildings; a large building is erected in the troubadour style. Refurbishment of the south and east wings after a fire in 1984.
