Historique

History
Remnant of an important fortified residence. The outline of the enclosure is representative of the geometric plans of court castles of the 13th century or early 14th. The square enclosure contained the dwelling, leaning against the south curtain wall, the stables and the chapel. Projecting cylindrical towers, pierced with arrow slits and crowned with wooden machicolations, surmounted the straight walls of the curtain walls, ending in a wall-walk. Wide moats defended the approach to the castle, whose entrance was by drawbridge. The present dwelling was built at the end of the 15th or beginning of the 16th century on the foundations of the former fortified house. Two polygonal turrets, one of which houses the staircase, enliven the courtyard façade. In the classical period, constructions were built against the main block and the south curtain wall. A gateway framed by pavilions replaced the drawbridge. Between 1875 and 1900, a programme of restoration disorganized the façades. Some of the towers of the enclosure were razed and the moats filled in. Inside the dwelling, large 15th century fireplaces are still in place. The chapel preserves remains of painted decoration.
