The fire in 1862 of the medieval château of la Brosse was the occasion for Georges Gardye de la Chapelle Crosville to remodel his estate, whose principal function appears to have been a hunting residence. The space occupied by the château comprises, along an avenue that crosses the property from north to south, at the entrance, the farm and the house of the steward, to the south, the stables arranged around a closed courtyard and isolated from the château, situated halfway. Beyond the stables a hunting park develops in which is built a water tower. In 1870 there had been constructed, on the bank of the Cher, a fixed machine for water elevation. The new château, built between 1862 and 1866, adopted the neo-Gothic style. The sculptured decoration uses the repertoire inspired by civil architecture of the Middle Ages. The interior decoration, principally that of the reception rooms and the great staircase, on the ground floor, offers the same unity of inspiration. The château, work of an architect whose name is not currently known, dominates a landscape and agricultural park, designed in 1862 by Paul de Lavenne de Choulot. This park, one of the last achievements of the landscape designer, has retained its legibility and reflects the very rich landscape thinking of its creator, made of simplicity and harmony with the surrounding nature. One of the principal interests of this property resides in the uniqueness of the programme associating park, château and outbuildings, realized between 1862 and 1870. The fire occurring in 1973 destroyed the roofs of the corbelled turrets and the pavilions of the château, thus weighing down the appearance of the building.
