La gare de Varzay fait partie d'une série de six petites stations identiques (Asnières-la-Giraud, Saint-Hilaire de Villefranche, Le Douhet, Pisany et Saint-Romain-de-Benet) édifiées entre 1909 et 1912 le long de la ligne Saint-Jean-d'Angély - Saujon, selon un type conçu par les ingénieurs des chemins de fer de l'Etat. La gare, située à l'extérieur du bourg, est terminée en mai 1912. C'est un bâtiment rectangulaire à deux niveaux, construit en pierre de taille calcaire et en moellon recouvert d'un enduit. L'angle nord-est est surélevé en façon de tour carrée couverte d'un toit en pavillon. La décoration des façades est une combinaison de briques émaillées blanches, rouges et vertes, au-dessus des baies ou en fins cordons. A l'ouest du bâtiment, existe encore un édicule rectangulaire qui comporte deux latrines, un local technique et des pissotières. Un peu plus loin est placé un enclos à muret en pierre surmonté d'une grille en fer.

History
Varzay station is part of a series of six identical small stations (Asnières-la-Giraud, Saint-Hilaire de Villefranche, Le Douhet, Pisany and Saint-Romain-de-Benet) built between 1909 and 1912 along the Saint-Jean-d'Angély - Saujon line, according to a type designed by State railway engineers. The station, located outside the village, was completed in May 1912. It is a rectangular two-storey building, built in ashlar limestone and rubble stone covered with render. The north-east corner is raised in the manner of a square tower covered with a pavilion roof. The decoration of the façades is a combination of white, red and green enamelled bricks, above the openings or in fine cords.
