Suite à la mort accidentelle de Paul Nozal le 13 juillet 1903, sur la Nationale 10, près de Barbezieux, sur la commune du Tatre, Hector Guimard (1867-1942), architecte, proche de la famille, réalise un monument commémoratif sous forme de borne comportant les inscriptions suivantes : « Accident / Automobile / 13 juillet 1903 / Mort de P.N. / âgé de 27 ans ». Le jeune homme est enterré au cimetière d'Auteuil dans le caveau familial. Unique construction architecturale d'Hector Guimard en Nouvelle-Aquitaine, elle témoigne de la puissance et de la richesse d'une riche famille d'industriel touché par le deuil.
Description
Cette borne mesure environ 2 mètres de haut, pour une largeur de 1 m et une profondeur de 0,60 m. Elle est en pierre calcaire, et porte l'inscription : « Accident / Automobile / 13 juillet 1903 / Mort de P.N. / âgé de 27 ans ». Le monument présente une base évasée bordée par ce qui semble être des ailes d'Hermès, un fût surmonté d'entrelacs et couronné par un casque de conducteur de voiture (protection utilisé par les pilotes de course chevronné comme l'était Paul Nozal). Elle, est aujourd'hui sur une portion déclassé de la RN 10.

History
Following the accidental death of Paul Nozal on 13 July 1903, on the Nationale 10, near Barbezieux, in the commune of Tatre, Hector Guimard (1867-1942), architect, close to the family, created a commemorative monument in the form of a boundary stone bearing the following inscriptions: "Accident / Automobile / 13 July 1903 / Death of P.N. / aged 27 years". Description
This boundary stone measures approximately 2 metres in height, for a width of 1 m and a depth of 0.60 m. It is in limestone, and bears the inscription: "Accident / Automobile / 13 July 1903 / Death of P.N. / aged 27 years". The monument presents a flared base bordered by what appear to be the wings of Hermès, a shaft surmounted by interlaced patterns and crowned by a motor racing helmet (protection used by experienced race drivers as Paul Nozal was). It is today on a section of the RN 10 that has been declassified.
