Le château de Peyras, implanté sur un site occupé depuis l'époque protohistorique, est tout à fait caractéristique des constructions frustes et solides de la Charente Limousine. La seigneurie est attestée à partir du milieu du 15e siècle. Le château, fortement remanié au cours des siècles, conserve de son architecture médiévale toute l'aile orientale et une tour d'angle tronconique. Il se compose d'une cour rectangulaire bordée de communs. La façade ouest du logis a peut-être été élevée tardivement (porte du 17e siècle) ; l'intérieur a été remanié aux 18e et 19e siècles ; la charpente est un bel exemple du type à chevrons formant fermes.

History
The château of Peyras, set on a site occupied since protohistoric times, is quite characteristic of the crude and solid constructions of Charente Limousine. The lordship is attested from the middle of the 15th century. The château, heavily remodelled over the centuries, retains from its medieval architecture the entire eastern wing and a truncated corner tower. It consists of a rectangular courtyard bordered by outbuildings. The west façade of the dwelling may have been built at a later date (17th-century door); the interior was remodelled in the 18th and 19th centuries; the roof structure is a fine example of the type with rafters forming roof trusses.
