Historique
La réforme fut très tôt introduite dans cette commune, qui se trouvait dans la zone d'influence de Poitiers. Un premier oratoire est attesté en 1564. Un temple, construit après 1607, est démoli en 1683. Deux autres lieux de culte sont aménagés au 18e siècle, mais ont disparu. Le temple actuel, le cinquième, fut construit par le pasteur Picanon qui exerça son ministère à Villefagnan de 1864 à 1898 ; le temple fut inauguré le 17 octobre 1875. La toiture et la voûte ont été refaites en 1983-1984, suite aux dégâts causés par la grêle. C'est un édifice aux dimensions modestes qui présente l'apparence d'une église catholique avec sa façade dominée par ses deux flèches jumelles. Ce temple mêle l'exubérance propre aux édifices néo-gothiques et une simplicité toute protestante dans son expression.

History
The Reformation was introduced very early in this commune, which was in the zone of influence of Poitiers. A first oratory is attested in 1564. A temple, built after 1607, is demolished in 1683. Two other places of worship are fitted out in the 18th century, but have disappeared. The present temple, the fifth, was built by pastor Picanon who exercised his ministry at Villefagnan from 1864 to 1898; the temple was inaugurated on 17 October 1875. The roof and vault were remade in 1983-1984, following damage caused by hail. It is a modest building which presents the appearance of a Catholic church with its facade dominated by its two twin spires. This temple blends the exuberance characteristic of neo-Gothic buildings and a simplicity altogether Protestant in its expression.
