Ce logis était la maison des évêques de Poitiers à Villefagnan qui appartenait à ce diocèse. Il est placé au carrefour le plus important de la ville. L'entrée de l'enceinte se composait d'une porte importante qui a conservé son apparence ancienne. Elle est flanquée de deux tours cylindriques qui conservent des vestiges de bretèches et de mâchicoulis. Le portail plein cintre et la petite porte piétonne sont surmontés d'une rangée de consoles qui portaient une galerie crénelée. A l'intérieur, chaque tour présente un rez-de-chaussée voûté en coupole. L'accès aux tours se faisait par un escalier appartenant au corps de logis, aujourd'hui détruit. La partie du logis encore debout conserve deux tours carrées. Côté cour, la muraille présente les mêmes consoles de pierre pour créneaux que la partie extérieure. L'accès à la galerie crénelée se faisait par un escalier à vis placé dans une tourelle en encorbellement. Au centre de la cour a été construite une maison récente.

History
This main dwelling was the house of the bishops of Poitiers at Villefagnan which belonged to this diocese. It is situated at the most important crossroads of the town. The entrance of the enclosure consisted of an important gate which has retained its ancient appearance. It is flanked by two cylindrical towers which retain vestiges of bretèches and machicolations. The round-arch portal and the small pedestrian gate are surmounted by a row of consoles which bore a crenellated gallery. Inside, each tower presents a ground floor vaulted with a dome. Access to the towers was by a staircase belonging to the main dwelling, now destroyed. The part of the main dwelling still standing preserves two square towers. On the courtyard side, the wall presents the same stone consoles for crenellations as the exterior part. Access to the crenellated gallery was by a spiral staircase placed in a corbelled turret. In the centre of the courtyard a modern house was built.
