Historique

History
The church, former priory united to the abbey of Nanteuil-en-Vallée, dates back to the 11th century. It would have been rebuilt on the site of the former church of Notre-Dame de l'Assomption, which had become insufficient and its origin would go back to the 13th century. The building underwent major restoration work during the 19th century. The plan presents a single nave of four bays preceding a narrower polygonal sanctuary. It is distinguished by the absence of a bell tower on the first bay of the choir and its entrance through the south-west bay of the nave. The bell tower is located above the western bay of the nave, offset to the north side. The entrance portal is inscribed in a projection whose masonry is rather poorly bonded with that of the west elevation. Above a cornice, the choir was elevated probably for defensive purposes during the Hundred Years War. Inside, the building was decorated by Alexandre-Félix Périn in 1886.
