En 1868, la création d'une ligne de chemin de fer reliant Clermont à Tulle est décidée, prévoyant un embranchement à Eygurande pour permettre l'exploitation des mines de charbon. En 1882, ouverture de la ligne dont la bifurcation n'atteint que Largnac. En 1887 est créée la ligne Aurillac - Mauriac.
