A partir de 1890, Antoine Lumière constitua à La Ciotat un grand domaine comptant une quarantaine d'édifices dont un château et ses dépendances, des villas, un port privé, des fermes, un vignoble, des cultures. Le château de style éclectique se rapproche des demeures fin de siècle de la Côte d'Azur. Sur le front de mer furent élevées deux villas jumelles pour les fils d'Antoine, Louis et Auguste. Elles présentent un agencement de volumes cubiques en retraits, à toits plats et soulignés par des corniches ; elles sont séparées par un passage vers le jardin arrière. Chacune compte trois niveaux et a subi des modifications : ajout de pièces sur la terrasse d'origine, modification des baies, des intérieurs...

History
From 1890 onwards, Antoine Lumière established at La Ciotat a large estate comprising around forty buildings including a château and its outbuildings, villas, a private port, farms, a vineyard, and crops. The château in eclectic style is close to the end-of-century residences of the Côte d'Azur. On the seafront two identical twin villas were erected for the sons of Antoine, Louis and Auguste. They present an arrangement of cubic volumes set back, with flat roofs underlined by cornices; they are separated by a passage to the rear garden. Each has three storeys and has undergone modifications: addition of rooms on the original terrace, modification of openings, interiors...
