Monument sculpté par Alfred Boucher et inauguré en 1921. Le thème retenu s'inspire de celui de la Pietà, le sujet devenant le " dernier baiser de la patrie ". En 1920, Boucher propose d'ajouter au dos de la figure du jeune soldat expirant, celle du Veilleur : un Poilu âgé, enveloppé dans un grand manteau, debout, serre son fusil contre sa poitrine. La sculpture, mesurant près de deux mètres de haut, est réalisé en ciment, matériau rappelant la terre et la boue des tranchées.

History
Monument sculpted by Alfred Boucher and inaugurated in 1921. The theme retained is inspired by that of the Pietà, the subject becoming the "last kiss of the homeland". In 1920, Boucher proposes to add to the back of the figure of the dying young soldier, that of the Watcher: an aged Poilu, wrapped in a great coat, standing, holds his rifle against his chest. The sculpture, measuring nearly two metres in height, is executed in cement, a material recalling the earth and mud of the trenches.
