Historique
L'ancien couvent des Capucins de Nogent-sur-Seine, fondé en 1639, est transformé, à la Révolution, en tribunal, prison et gendarmerie. Incendiés en 1814, les bâtiments sont reconstruits en 1823 et la première audience solennelle se tient en janvier 1825. Les constructions sont bâties en moellon avec des encadrements en pierre de taille. A l'intérieur du tribunal, la salle d'audience a conservé son mobilier ancien et les cellules ainsi que les cachots ont subi peu de modifications depuis 1823. Les façades en miroir du logis du concierge et du gardien-chef sont réalisées dans un appareillage monumental représentatif de l'architecture de la seconde moitié du 18e siècle. De nombreux graffiti sont visibles dans les anciennes cellules, en particulier un vaste panorama évoquant l'Italie dessiné au fusain. Cet ensemble architectural reflète une conception de la justice et de l'incarcération héritée de l'Ancien Régime où le tribunal et la prison étaient réunis dans un même lieu.

History
The former Capuchin convent of Nogent-sur-Seine, founded in 1639, was transformed at the Revolution into a court, prison and gendarmerie. The buildings were burned in 1814, rebuilt in 1823 and the first solemn hearing was held in January 1825. The constructions are built in rubble stone with ashlar stone surrounds. Inside the courthouse, the courtroom has retained its old furniture and the cells as well as the dungeons have undergone little modification since 1823. The mirror facades of the main dwelling of the caretaker and chief warder are executed in monumental coursing representative of the architecture of the second half of the 18th century. Numerous graffiti are visible in the former cells, in particular a vast panorama evoking Italy drawn in charcoal. This architectural ensemble reflects a conception of justice and incarceration inherited from the Old Regime where the court and prison were united in the same place.
