Historique
Le château a été construit au XIVe siècle (peut-être à l'emplacement d'un château plus ancien en bois ?). Il appartenait à la fin du XVIe siècle à un seigneur de Pierrebrune ou Pierregrave. Vers 1675, Peufeilhoux passa à Gilbert Jehannot, seigneur de Pallières. Vers 1709, Durand Villatte en est propriétaire et sa famille l'est toujours jusqu'en 1920. Cependant les Villatte délaissent progressivement le château qui tombe peu à peu en ruines. La propriété est achetée en 1920 par Michel Machard, inspecteur des finances qui entreprend de restaurer le château avec l'architecte René Sappin des Raynaud pendant plus de sept ans (1920-1927).

History
The castle was built in the 14th century (perhaps on the site of an older wooden castle?). It belonged at the end of the 16th century to a lord of Pierrebrune or Pierregrave. Around 1675, Peufeilhoux passed to Gilbert Jehannot, lord of Pallières. Around 1709, Durand Villatte is its owner and his family remains so until 1920. However, the Villatte family progressively neglected the castle which gradually fell into ruins. The property is bought in 1920 by Michel Machard, inspector of finances who undertakes to restore the castle with the architect René Sappin des Raynaud for more than seven years (1920-1927).
