Historique
M. de Champfeu acquit en 1790 le domaine des Melays, vendu comme bien national. Il décida dans les années 1840 dy faire construire un château neuf, dont le gros oeuvre fut achevé en 1848. Larchitecte en fut probablement Hippolyte Durand, qui travailla au même moment dans dautres propriétés bourbonnaises. Le parc fut dessiné par le comte Lavenne de Choulot. Vendu en 1865, le château des Meslay fut acquis par Barthélemy de Las Cases pour sa fille, Ofrésie des Michels. Celle-ci, avec son mari, acheva laménagement et la décoration intérieure du château, confiés à larchitecte moulinois Jean-Bélisaire Moreau.Le château constitue un rare exemple de château « néo-Renaissance » construit sous Louis-Philippe.

History
M. de Champfeu acquired in 1790 the domain of the Melays, sold as national property. He decided in the 1840s to have a new château built there, of which the main work was completed in 1848. The architect was probably Hippolyte Durand, who worked at the same time on other Bourbon properties. The park was laid out by Count Lavenne de Choulot. Sold in 1865, the château des Meslay was acquired by Barthélemy de Las Cases for his daughter, Ofrésie des Michels. She, with her husband, completed the fitting-out and interior decoration of the château, entrusted to the Moulin architect Jean-Bélisaire Moreau. The château constitutes a rare example of a 'Neo-Renaissance' château built under Louis-Philippe.
