L'ancien château fut le fief d'une seigneurie pouvant être considérée comme l'un des jalons de l'implantation des Bourbons dans la partie orientale de leur territoire. Bâti dans un ravin et entouré d'un étang artificiel, l'édifice était constitué de deux corps de logis en L, flanqués de tours rondes ou carrées et disposés, selon la typologie des châteaux-cours, autour d'une cour fermée par une courtine. Certains détails d'architecture accusent une construction du 14e ou du 15e siècle. Des communs et une chapelle sont édifiés du 16e au 18e siècle, réalisés, comme le château, dans un mélange de grès local ocre et rouge. Un nouveau château est construit au 20e siècle, délimitant ainsi une cour d'honneur. Ce dernier édifice adopte un style éclectique mêlant le néo-gothique au classicisme à l'italienne (galerie à arcades). L'ancien château, aujourd'hui en ruine, a été habité jusqu'à la Révolution.

History
The former castle was the fief of a seigneurial estate that can be considered as one of the milestones in the establishment of the Bourbons in the eastern part of their territory. Built in a ravine and surrounded by an artificial pond, the building consisted of two main dwellings in an L-shape, flanked by round or square towers and arranged, according to the typology of castle-courtyards, around a closed courtyard with a curtain wall. Certain architectural details indicate construction of the 14th or 15th century. Outbuildings and a chapel were built from the 16th to the 18th century, made, like the castle, from a mixture of local ochre and red sandstone. A new castle was built in the 20th century, thus delimiting a court of honour. This latter building adopts an eclectic style mixing neo-gothic with classical Italian style (arcade gallery). The old castle, now in ruins, was inhabited until the Revolution.
