Pendant la guerre de 1870, l'évêque de Moulins fit voeu d'édifier une nouvelle église à Avermes si son diocèse était épargné par les Prussiens. History
During the war of 1870, the bishop of Moulins made a vow to build a new church in Avermes if his diocese was spared by the Prussians. The plans for the building were entrusted to Reverend Father Desrosiers, and the foundation stone was laid in 1871. The inauguration took place in 1873. In 1892, Alfred Bertrand was given the task of designing a staircase to access the church from the foot of the hill dominating the Allier.
