The site of Izieux has been devoted since the mid-19th century to textile activity, thanks to the presence of the Gier whose water quality facilitates silk and dyeing work. It was especially the Gillet family, present from 1861, who ensured considerable expansion of the factory. The dyeworks created in 1877 and enlarged from the 1880s onwards is the oldest. The oil crisis in the 1970s put an end to all activity. In 1977, the factory is purchased by the city of Saint-Chamond which installs a printer there, then in 1984 the Centre of Craft and Industrial Activities or "business incubator". Despite the demolitions carried out in the 1970s, it has retained the essential elements of its composition: the workshops of 1877, a space covered with sheds, open to the north and supported by cast-iron pillars, management building, chimney, the villa, work of the architect Gaspard André. The whole of the facades received a decoration of sumptuous brick facing, due to Gaspard André.
