La communauté juive de Libourne qui comptait 77 membres en 1846 obtint l'année suivante l'autorisation, par ordonnance royale, de faire construire cette synagogue, conçue sur des canons néo-classiques, sur les dessins de Gautier. Elle resta fermée 50 ans, au cours de la première moitié du 20e siècle. L'arrivée des juifs d'Afrique du Nord dans les années 1960 permit de rouvrir l'édifice en le réaménageant partiellement.

History
The Jewish community of Libourne, which numbered 77 members in 1846, obtained authorization the following year, by royal ordinance, to have this synagogue built, designed on neo-classical principles, from plans by Gautier. It remained closed for 50 years, during the first half of the 20th century. The arrival of Jews from North Africa in the 1960s made it possible to reopen the building by partially refitting it.
