Découvert en 1904, le bassin d'extraction de la célèbre potasse d'Alsace fertilisante (sylvinite Kcl, NaCl ou chlorure de potassium) , permit à la France pendant l'entre-deux-guerres d'occuper la place de deuxième producteur mondial. Le chevalement en fer de la mine Théodore fut construit de 1957 à 1958 par l'architecte Y. Ruelle en remplacement de celui de 1911 dressé par un groupe allemand lors du fonçage initial. Il est représentatif de la deuxième génération de chevalements du bassin potassique élevés après 1945.

History
Discovered in 1904, the extraction basin of the famous fertilising Alsatian potash (sylvinite KCl, NaCl or potassium chloride), allowed France during the interwar period to occupy the position of second-largest world producer. The iron headgear of the Théodore mine was built from 1957 to 1958 by architect Y. Ruelle to replace that of 1911 erected by a German group during the initial sinking. It is representative of the second generation of potassium basin headgears erected after 1945.
