Historique
Bibliothèque construite à l'emplacement de l'ancien couvent des Carmélites, de 1932 à 1935. L'origine de la bibliothèque peut être attribuée à Lomènie de Brienne qui rassemble les fonds de la bibliothèque des Jésuites en 1782. Elle s'accroît à la Révolution en incluant les bibliothèques monastiques puis les fonds de collections privées, et enfin les volumes de la bibliothèque du clergé en 1866. Les trois corps de bâtiments définissent les fonctions de la bibliothèque. Un premier corps abrite les services administratifs. Le second, relié au premier par un vestibule, constitue la salle de lecture, éclairée par une coupole. Un troisième se situe dans le prolongement du précédent et sert de magasin de livres sur six niveaux. Différents artistes toulousains réalisent fresques (Marc Saint-Saens) , fontaines (Parayre) , bas-reliefs (Sylvestre Clerc) , tableaux (Edouard Bouillères) et vitrail (Rapp). History
Library built on the site of the former convent of the Carmelites, from 1932 to 1935. The origin of the library can be attributed to Lomènie de Brienne who assembled the holdings of the Jesuit library in 1782.
