Historique

History
The chapel of the seminary was built in the first half of the 17th century for the Carmelites. The first stone was laid in 1622. The building of rectangular plan presents a sanctuary with two cut-off ends. Formerly, two arcades put the church in communication with the choir of the nuns, a chapel dedicated to Saint Joseph and the sacristy. The arcade opening onto the choir was furnished with a double grille and a curtain, according to the rule of Carmel. These two arcades have been removed. The choir of the nuns was transformed into a sacristy, and the Saint Joseph chapel was demolished. The two small side doors were opened in the 19th century. On the exterior, the façade of the south gable is decorated with alternating courses of brick and stone. The centre of this façade is occupied by a niche surmounted by a small rounded pediment, with acroteria. The upper part of the façade is crowned by a triangular pediment. A rose window had been installed between the two pediments, then closed in the 18th century when the apotheosis of Saint Theresa was painted. The wooden vault is inspired by the Renaissance. The walls are covered with wood panelling. The paintings of the vaults were executed from 1747 to 1751 by Despax. Ownership of the chapel (formerly property of the State, ministry of culture) was transferred to the commune by convention of 31 July 2007.
