Historique
Réalisation architecturale du 13e siècle dans l'esprit des constructions de Philippe Auguste. Construit entre 1240 et 1250, le château est remanié au 15e siècle. Transformation des archères ; modification de la tour sud-est ; remaniement des logis et de la tour carrée. Au 17e siècle, percement d'une porte ornée de pilastres au deuxième niveau de la tour Est. En 1860, le château est incendié. Le plan est constitué d'un rectangle avec une tour circulaire à chaque angle. A l'est et à l'ouest, en milieu de courtine, présence d'une tour carrée. Jusqu'à la fin du 19e siècle, la façade sud conserve un portail d'entrée aménagé dans une tour carrée. Des courtines s'élèvent au troisième niveaux des tours. La rigueur géométrique du plan, la qualité des aménagements défensifs et résidentiels font de ce château un élément important de l'histoire de l'architecture militaire auvergnat.

History
Architectural achievement of the 13th century in the spirit of constructions by Philippe Auguste. Built between 1240 and 1250, the castle is remodelled in the 15th century. Transformation of the arrow slits; modification of the south-east tower; remodelling of the dwellings and the square tower. In the 17th century, piercing of a door ornamented with pilasters at the second level of the East tower. In 1860, the castle is burnt. The plan consists of a rectangle with a circular tower at each corner. To the east and west, in the middle of the curtain wall, presence of a square tower. Until the end of the 19th century, the south façade retains an entrance portal fitted in a square tower. Curtain walls rise to the third level of the towers. The geometric rigidity of the plan, the quality of the defensive and residential arrangements make this castle an important element in the history of Auvergnat military architecture.
