Historique
Monseigneur de Salinis, au milieu du 19e siècle, donna l'impulsion nécessaire à la modernisation et à l'urbanisation d'Auch. Le projet consistait, pour l'essentiel, à dégager la cathédrale après avoir mis au point le réseau d'adduction d'eau potable et l'éclairage des rues, et en reliant la ville haute et la ville basse par la construction d'un escalier monumental de 330 marches, inauguré en 1863. La première terrassse est occupée par la statue de D'Artagnan, dans un jardin dont les angles sont occupés par deux banquettes en demi-cercle. Une fontaine est adossée au mur de la terrasse supérieure. Un bassin complète l'ensemble. Puis, les volées doubles se déploient pour mener à une deuxième terrasse occupée par deux parterres et une autre fontaine. History
Monseigneur de Salinis, in the mid-19th century, gave the necessary impetus to the modernisation and urbanisation of Auch. The project consisted, essentially, in clearing the cathedral after having developed the drinking water supply network and street lighting, and in connecting the upper town and lower town by the construction of a monumental staircase of 330 steps, inaugurated in 1863.
