Historique

History
The convent was built from 1644 onwards and has retained part of its buildings, integrated among more modern constructions. Madame Guyon, inspirer of quietism, stayed there between 1655 and 1659. It was used by the Hôtel-Dieu during the Revolution and remained a hospital until 1993, undergoing major modifications to the original plan. Only three wings in a U-shape surrounding a cloister with two levels of galleries around an inner courtyard have remained in place. The cloister is devoid of ornaments. Only the arcade punctuates the façade. The upper gallery is sheltered by the roof pitch resting on slender cast-iron columns. The interior of the buildings has been completely disfigured, with the exception of three staircases with straight flights and wooden turned-baluster railings. A new façade was erected from 1926 to 1932 by Philippon, in an eclectic style alternating patterns of brick and stone. Access is achieved beneath the central pavilion by a porch with false groin vaults resting on columns decorated with mosaics. The last buildings date from the post-war period.
