Ce vestige était le portail de l'ancienne prestrière du chapitre cathédral de Chartres, dont l'ensemble de l'édifice a presque entièrement disparu. History
This remnant was the portal of the former prestrière of the cathedral chapter of Chartres, the entire building of which has almost completely disappeared. The preserved part comprises the voussoir of the arch and the beginning of the vaulting (in ashlar stone and rubble stone infill), a perpendicular stabilising wall (in rubble stone), and a circular lookout tower projecting over the corner (in brick). The corbel is carved with lions and putti in stone. The artist successfully achieved the difficult junction between a rectangular base and a circular construction. He balanced his composition on either side of the central axis.
