Historique
Fondée à la fin du 10e siècle, l'abbaye bénédictine de Saint-Sever est située sur l'un des principaux itinéraires de Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle. Elle connaît une grande prospérité jusqu'au 14e siècle. Après les ravages de la guerre de Cent Ans, les bâtiments conventuels sont reconstruits en 1435, pour être à nouveau ruinés pendant les guerres de religion (incendie en 1572). La reconstruction n'intervient que dans la seconde moitié du 17e siècle, à l'initiative des bénédictins de Saint-Maur. Restauration achevée en 1703. Couvent loti et démantelé sous la Révolution.

History
Founded at the end of the 10th century, the Benedictine abbey of Saint-Sever is situated on one of the main routes to Santiago de Compostela. It enjoyed great prosperity until the 14th century. After the ravages of the Hundred Years' War, the monastic buildings were rebuilt in 1435, only to be ruined again during the Wars of Religion (fire in 1572). Reconstruction did not take place until the second half of the 17th century, at the initiative of the Benedictines of Saint-Maur. Restoration completed in 1703. The convent was divided into lots and dismantled during the Revolution.
